2020 RR X CCC Quick blast to Twin Lakes Velo Cafe.
18.10.20
Ride 11 - 147.02 miles to go.
Went to bed last night determined that Sunday was going to be a big ride.
What then happens is that I spend all night mentally preparing myself for it. This then leads to a poor nights sleep and I wake up exhausted and suddenly trapped between heading out for that big ride or changing it to a smaller one and a battle then rages in my head.
Time slowly ticks away. Before I know it the clock says 12 midday. Annoyed with myself that it is too late to start a big ride and on the verge of just having a lazy day.
I have 147 miles to go with two weeks to complete them. But the pressure is on, as the forecast is against me and ever earlier darker nights are setting in.
So whilst procrastinating over a Sunday ride, I knew deep down, I just needed to get out to help chip away at those remaining miles.
My cycling team 'Coffee, Cake & Chat' had set off in the morning on a local loop and in all honesty I wish I had joined them. They were heading to my favourite cycling cafe. Twin Lakes over in Croston.
Then in a split second the switch in my head had flipped. I was changed and ready to head out to that very cafe.
The great thing about heading here is you know you are going to enjoy great coffee and food. You can sit outside and enjoy the view of the Twin Lakes, knowing the inbound route is a great ride.
It is only 14 miles outbound and I know I can do it at pace in about 50 minutes.
3.5 miles in and who happened to be heading in the opposite direction. The CCC gang! A quick wave and big smiles as we flew past each other.
After pushing myself as hard as I could I landed at the cafe. 14 miles in 43 minutes and an average speed of 19.2mph. (Very pleased with that).
A quick catch up with my friend and Twin Lakes owner Jon, before smashing my Beans and Cheese on Toast (loads of butter) and a delightful Macchiato. With a Millionaires Shortcake as a take away treat in the back pocket.
I usually take the return leg a little easier but my legs and lungs felt good and so decided to hit it hard once more. 18 miles in 62 minutes and a 17.6mph average. With double the climbing as the outbound and town centre traffic lights to contend with. I would take that all day long.
So from being on the verge of not riding today and being pissed off with myself for procrastinating. I am now writing this blog in a much happier mood. No matter how high my anxiety levels may be before a ride. They always vanish as soon as I hit the road.
410.17 miles down. 114.83 to go. 23307ft climbed.
